Custom Memorial Keepsakes
When you lose someone you love, it hurts, in a way that is almost indescribable. A hollowing out, where an empty space stays and can’t be filled. Loss is complex, a dichotomy of waves of emotion. Mourning is like wandering the earth in a thick fog, with no compass, no lighthouse to guide you back. Something that can help ease this sense of dreadful loss, is a keepsake, a memento. Something to physically touch and hold, and wear, that has something truly special inside.
My Memorial Keepsakes encapsulate something from your dearly departed into resin, frozen in time, an eternal reminder of them, of your love for them. Pictured above are three custom pet memorial keepsakes I have made.
Photo 1: My beautiful chihuahua Raven passed away in April of 2024, before I lay her to rest I gathered some of her fur. I then made this stunning necklace which allows me to carry a piece of her with me, and I find myself drawn to holding the pendent absentmindedly when I wear it.
Photo 2: A friend of mine lost her three year old dog and wanted matching necklaces for her and her mother to wear in remembrance of their sweet girl. This one was especially special because I was able to finish them in time for Dia de los Muertos, they were able to adorn her memory around their neck while celebrating around the ofrenda. Inside I also placed some fleabane wildflowers my daughter and I picked from our garden, since her pup loved lounging in her backyard.
Photo 3: A dear friend lost her two 20+ year old cats within days of one another. A truly heartbreaking loss, but she gave them such a wonderful and long lives. One kitty was black, and one was orange. Going for a memorial yin and yang, I used their fur to create stunning necklace pendants for the two kitties parents.
Not Pictured: Due to the severe personal nature of the piece I will not show the photos, but I have also done a custom memorial piece for a woman whose husband passed away, and she had me encapsulate some of his hair for her to adorn around her neck to remind her of their bond and to feel extra close to him on those days that are unimaginably painful.
Some may find this artform to be quite macabre or disturbing but for myself and those who have made the choice to save a small piece of their loved one forever, it has been healing, and offered a unique kind of comfort. When I work with these memorial keepsakes i take my time and talk through the designs in extreme detail, I want to ensure the piece comes out just how you envisioned it. I am willing to work with fur, hair, feathers, ash, teeth, fabric, and bones. Every memorial piece is handled with respect, love, and lots of care. I know just how hard this is, and want you to feel comfortable and confident that your loved ones remains or reminder is being handled respectfully and carefully.
